As a hetersexual individual it is very uncomfortable going through and having them view our bodies. They are also able to see when a woman is wearing tampons or sanitary pads. Also, those machines over heat regularly and shutdown. without being inspected they resume use once they cool down. The medical staff who are contract workers have to go through the scanners also. Nurses and medical staff who go to different units have to scan multiple times in one day. There are now staff who are complaining of headaches and tingling in feet and under skin. The pregnant women are threatened temination if they refuse. If there are a increase in medical issues with staff many are threatening to sue MDOC which will cause the state money. A staff member who under went radioactive treatment for thyroid cancer was terminated, because she refused to be exposed to the daily dosing of radiation. I know contraband is an issue but the health of employees and their privacy are more important issues. There is literature which state there could be an increase in skin cancer and cataracts from exposure when used in airports, but the staff is receiving daily exposure sometimes more than once. We really need Congress to act because the leadership for MDOC doesn't listen nor view individual issues.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
